    As you have mentioned of Redhat 7.3  why not use CUPS .it has nice features
  you can administer and control printing from remote location using its web 
  interface.( http://localhost:631). and configuring client systems is much 
  more simpler than lpd. and basically no config is required on client machine. 
  u just have to start the CUPS daemon. 
 
  use 
  redhat-switch-printer command to switch to CUPS and restart CUPS daemon. if printer
  is connected to your system ,the cups will automatically guess the kind of 
  printer attached and configure the printer.
       
     
   
  (note: redhat 7.3 ships with CUPS )
