I installed the server option with no firewall. I enabled wu-ftp and telnet via the setup utility and after rebooting, telnet connections were accepted. However, it seems that after a certain unknown time period, telnet connections are disallowed, UNTIL I login to the console, which seems to "wake up" the telnetd server and allow telnet connections once again. During the time telnet connections are disallowed, I can ping the server from other systems, I just can't telnet to it - again, until I login to the console. I know this is not normal behavior, but I have no idea what is happening here. If anyone does, I would appreciate the advice.
