The first thing you must realize is that almost all cd buring programs for 
Linux are actually just front ends for cdrecord, which is doing the real 
work.

The second thing you must realize is that cdrecord only works with SCSI 
devices.  What you need to do is run your IDE cdrom drive in SCSI 
emulation mode.  I regret that I don't remember the steps to do this off 
the top of my head, but I do remember it was quite easy.  I would do an 
internet search for "ide-scsi", which is what the module you have to load 
is called.  There's another step too though.
