"Coming home"?  Redhat 4.2?  Ext3fs/ReiserFS/others are less prone to fs
corruption but just because a filesystem isn't corrupt doesn't mean your
data won't be corrupt.  If the system is important, put in a UPS and
configure automatic shutdown when commercial power fails.  That should be
your first step if its an important system, not worrying about switching
filesystems.
