Hi:

I don't know what I did wrong, but here's the story.

Yesterday, I upgrade BIND, from red hat up2date, and glibc (recent updates)
for my RH7.2 box. The up2date session was interrupted in the middle, or
something like that so I SSHed into the box and ran the up2date script
again. BIND failed to start, having a problem with permission stuff. After
tinkering with it for a long time and reading a lot of FAQ & BIND mailing
lists, I couldn't figure our what's wrong (nah..... permissions of
/var/named, /var/run/named, or whatever have been tried almost
everything).... then, just to get it up quickly, I decided to d/l the source
and built from it. Still it refused to start.

Now comes the important part, problems now are apache won't run,
and qmail's supervise is having a problem too. Biggest problem is there are
50 domains in that box.

Log says: that named is having a permission problem. (I couldn't access the
box now so no detail log is available.)

Apache log says:
[Tue Aug 13 12:17:16 2002] [error] System: Permission denied (errno: 13)
[Tue Aug 13 12:17:16 2002] [error] mod_ssl: Child could not open SSLMutex
lockfile /usr/local/apache/logs/ssl_mutex.12676 (System error follows)

Qmail log says:
The log says something like [suidgid] problem, and it has trouble injecting
bounced mail.. something like system permission problem that got infected
from my upgrade. (I couldn't access the box now so no detail log is
available.)

I reapplied tha patches for glibc, bind, and even the kernel.. try
recompiling daemontool.. and now the box refused to boot! The box is at
dialtone (not here) so I have to ask them to reboot it--and waiting for the
result now.

Anyone any idea, please?

Thanks
-Kittiwat
