Hmmm...not sure how to get to the init scripts from a rpm?

I would only try reinstalling apache, mysql, and php as a last resort. That
was a time consuming effort with all the options and everything.

Am I asking for something that can't be done???  It can't really be this
difficult to add services to the bootup, is it?

Consider using the init scripts provided with Red Hat's packages, even
if you aren't going to use the rpms.

The rpm's that Red Hat provides are usually excellent references.  If
you're going to build from source, you should probably get and install
the src.rpm's.  Look at the specs to see how RH builds the software, and
look at the patches they apply as well.
