RH 7.2 fully updated. Up until a month or so ago, RH 7.2 printed fine on my Epson Stylus Color 740. Then, for whatever reason, it stopped working.
After some frustrating attempts at getting it to work again, I decided to install CUPS. Installing CUPS from source seemed to go fine. I managed to a CUPS test printing to work from http://localhost:631/ admin page. That's as far as I got, in terms of getting printing via CUPS to work. I've turned the CUPS 'debug' mode, and the output from that only reports one obvious error (?): Unable to convert file 0 to printable format for job 34! here is the relevant section: I [03/Aug/2002:23:31:18 -0700] Job 34 queued on 'Epson740' by ''. D [03/Aug/2002:23:31:18 -0700] CancelJob: id = 34 d [03/Aug/2002:23:31:18 -0700] add_job_state_reasons(0x402e4220[8], 34) Comparing the debug output I get (more than those lines above) from debug to examples in the docs I've been looking at there should be more info and more "real" errors. Frustrating. Tonight, I decided to give it another shot. I did a google search, and found a couple of references to Rh 7.2 and CUPS that involved a more radical approach... # rpm -e printconf-gui # rpm -e printconf # rpm -e LPRng reinstall CUPS (make install (from previous compile)) reinstall gimp-print (make install (from previous config --with-cups and previous compile)) (re)start CUPS. Some progress... CUPS admin still can't print. Apps still can't print. * GIMP prints, but poorly. I'm burned out on this. I've been reading tons of docs, and am somewhat lost. Does anyone have the definitive guide to get CUPS running on RH 7.2? Any suggestions? thank you for your help. -- - Martin J.
