I am a little confused. So the same line must be in the client and the
server? Why the client. A man of export does state what machine must have
it, but from what it does say is that the file is a list of folders on the
machine that can be exported. That sounds like a server option.

Can you clarify what the line would look like on the client and what the
line would look like on the server?

Yes on both accounts. Don't forget to restart /etc/init.d/portmap and
/etc/init.d/nfs then the changes in /etc/exports will take effect.
