Hi all,
Please excuse my ignorant, but I am a bit confused about this. My
understanding is that chkfontpath is somekind of utility from Redhat to
add new fonts in a directory to the X font server.

So I downloaded a set of new fonts in a directory, created font dir
using mkfontdir. Then I did
chkfontpath -a /new/font/dir/
and I re-checked with chkfontpath -l to make sure the directory is
there.

After restarting xfs, I did "xlsfonts |grep -i fontname", where fontname
is one of the font in the /new/font/dir/, and it just not there.

The fonts I downloaded is for MathML in mozilla (CMSY10), so I also
confirmed this firing up mozilla and load a MathML page, and mozilla
still complained cannot find that font. So, what is the purpose of
chkfontpath?

>From searching, I think I can add new fonts using
"xset fp+ /new/font/dir", then "xset fp rehash", but someone says this
needs to be done everytime I reboot the machine, and so one way to do it
is to put this in .bashrc or .bash_profile.

Is there any better solution for this problem? In any case, this second
solution is not really the answer of my original question: what is
chkfontpath for?

Please enlighten me. :). Thanks in advance for any reply.
