Stop sendmail, delete all files from /var/spool/mqueue, start sendmail
again.  Be aware, this wipes out all messages in the queue (incoming and
outgoing)

That's certainly not standard sendmail behavior.  Is there another admin for
this box?  You need to hunt down what's doing that.  By default, (RedHat)
sendmail will write its entries to /var/log/maillog.
