Hello Geoffrey,

Tuesday, June 25, 2002, 1:59:19 PM, you textually orated:

GL> Ok, I wrote before about problems with the cds, that it seemed that the
GL> cds were being read incorrectly or that they were damaged in some way.
GL> And I was told to use the command switch "linux mediacheck", which I did
GL> to all 3 CDs... THEY PASSED This time the CD was read but when it came
GL> to installing one of the rpms I was told that the file is dammaged or
GL> corrupt and the documentation on the 2nd cd the whole installation
GL> crashed. I was asked to save the log of the error which of course is
GL> attached to this message... If the mailing list doesn't support this I
GL> can send it to whomever is willing to help me out.
GL> The head scratcher here is that I've downloaded the ISOs from
GL> www.redhat.com and the mirror sites listed there. One of which, the one
GL> I used during the installation, was a different size that the ones at
GL> ww.redhat.com but it was the one that worked!!! I've used getright to
GL> download the files since my current connection likes to kick me off
GL> every 8 hours and @ 5-10k/s I don't have enough time unless I use a
GL> download manager..
GL> I was thinking that perhaps one of you could post the second cd (that
GL> was already used to install) on a website, ftp or newgroup in smaller
GL> rar files... That is if you don't have any ideas on just what is going
GL> on!

GL> I'd appreciate any help at all...

Just a stab in the dark...

I have seen strange media problems when I've burned ISOs and then stuck them
in other machines to install. The problem is that not all CD-ROM drives are
created equal and if you burn at a high speed (over 2x) it can sometimes not
be easily read by the drive. It can also be quite sporadic.

If the ISOs you have(on your hard drive) pass MD5 tests they are good,
period. If they then fail to be read properly, once on CD, by a different
machine (or perhaps the same one) try burning them at a slower speed (1x is
painfully slow but can be read by anything) and see if it helps.

If you have your ISOs in windows and don't already have an md5 utility, you
can get one here...
http://www.iay.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/threel/tech/tools/dos/md5.exe

The proper MD5 sums are available where you got the ISOs.

Have fun,
