good PHP sources?

anyone have any favorite PHP sites? We have some simple scripts I would somehow like incorporate into a web interface. I have seen scripts that execute Unix commands, but little is written about *how* they actually work. Something as simple as "do this" and then maybe pipe the output to a variable I can display in html. Its all very new to me, but I just cant take working on windoze anymore. Any suggestions or sources are greatly appreciated. Cheers! Mike Flanagan
