  ah, but this goes back to my *original* post on this whole brouhaha --
on a regular basis, people ask how to "uninstall" grub, but never put
it in the context of what problem they're trying to solve.

  you want to uninstall?  no problem.  just "dd" stuff over top of the
MBR code.

  you want to reinstall grub?  "man grub-install".

  you want to *replace* grub with a windows boot loader?  "fdisk /mbr"
from a DOS disk.

  trust me, the answers would be a lot more relevant if the question
was more complete.
