the filesize limit on a win2k box is MUCH higher than 1gb
(fat32's cap is @4gb... ntfs is considerably larger)
if you're worried about file size though, you can always compile the tarball
on an ext3 filesystem and then split the file into small pieces using
'split'.

Subject: Largest file size for Linux/Samba?

| I'm trying to do a backup from my client to a samba server (stock redhat
| 7.3). The last time I tried this, the backup stopped when the file
reached
| 1GB. I think this is because of a file size limitation. Has this been
| overcome? Any suggestions for software on the win2K side that would allow
| me to backup my data for this samba server?
|
| thanks
