hi, > I formated my computers HD and did Fdisk on my HD to FAT. Then I wanted to install >Linux Redhat 7.3 instead of my privious version Linux Redhat 7.2. So I created a >bootdisk with rawrite and booted up the computer and pressed enter when installation >menu showed up. The problem is know that when the bootdisk loads after I have pressed >enter is that it tries to load my old version Linux Redhat 7.2 and it stops after a >while because it cant find this version. I get the message "you may safetly reboot >your system". I have tried to do "fdisk /mbr" but i wont work and I cant boot up >Linux installtion on a CD because I have an old computer what shall I do to install >Redhat Linux 7.3 whitout getting the bootdisk to load my old version all the time???
This is obvious if u have forgotten to run "lilo -u" before formating your disk. The reason for this is the boot entry in Master boot record(MBR). you should erase this entry before trying to install the new version. The option left for you will be to make a startup disk for windows or dos 6.22 and boot ur system using it. At cmd prompt type A:\> fdisk /mbr and reboot your system now use redhat startup disk and u should be through. cheers rk -- The Exocore Professional Linux Administrator Workshop Coming in July 2002. http://www.exocore.com/events --------------------------------------------- Ramakrishna | [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exocore Consulting | http://www.exocore.com Bangalore, India | +91 (80) 344-0397 | --------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
