Try to pass to the kernel (on boot prompt) 'root=/dev/hd**' (hd** = your 
root linux partition); If it`s not work, try 'root=/dev/hd** 
init=/bin/sh'  - this loads single user mode shell. Then look in 
/etc/fstab , it `s possible that format is incorrect ...
