Thanks for your help. Using the original CD's, I was able to get into linux and run lilo to create a new boot disk.
I've had lba32 in my lilo.conf files for quite a while. But I still get the >1024 error when trying to set up lilo on my hdd. If PowerQuest would upgrade Partition Magic to support Ext3 soon I'd rather upgrade to that and use Boot Magic for the long term. I'll be patient till then.
