I read this somewhere recently (here?) and tried it with good results.

If you add "galeon --server" to your session startup (Foot -> Settings ->
Session -> Session Properties & Startup Programs) Galeon will load and
start a server process. Then when you launch Galeon, it will load much
faster since it really only needs to connect to the running process and
open a window.

You'll need to kill Galeon using "galeon --quit" when ending your GNOME
session. Otherwise you'll get the Galeon crash dialog the next time you
login. I did this by replacing the standard GNOME logout button on my
panel with a launcher that runs "galeon --quit ; save-session --kill". The
standard icon is /usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-term-night.png.

GNOME startup time does not seem to be significantly affected and my
browser launches a lot faster.
