Ahh, the old "Apple vs IBM" debates of the late 80's. Interesting enough,
many people made the switch for many other reasons too.

1. Adults used DOS Applications at work and needed compatibility (Lotus 123,
etc.)

2. The fact that MS DOS could be distubuted and installed on other machines.
Apple didn't license their OS out to other companies.

3. Kids were pretty smart back then. There were use to commandline
interfaces, and adapted accordingly. Plus all of their friends had MS DOS
running, so they had a pretty big (and cheap) support group. I didn't know
many people with Mac's back then.

4. Software was free ("free" as in illegally free) <GRIN>. While there was
little education about how sharing software hurt the software industry, kids
and adults use to swap a lot of games, applications and even operating
systems. People buying a new computer realized that if they bought a Mac,
they would have to purchase ALL of their software.

5. Plus, MS DOS came on all PC's anyway (just like today). So people didn't
have to install the OS... just their applications.

Trevor.
