Ports is not a feature of Red Hat Linux. The packages included with Red Hat Linux are installable directly from the CD's in binary format. Most of the available software will also be in rpm form. You might want to get a hold of "apt" from http://freshrpms.net/. Apt can be used to keep your system up to date, or install software from apt repositories. I'd heard that someone was working on a ports tree for Linux, but I can't find any information on it now.
