you'd best check /var/log/messages
that's where you'll find what went wrong
and why nameD didn't start
there's a number of possible reasons for this
could be that named.conf doesn't 'groove'
with the zone files in /var/named
or that one or all of the zone files themselves are not written right
or that named.xx (xx being your county code) doesn't exist
