Hello all!

I am finally going to be getting broadband service to my house. I have a
Linksys router that will be my firewall/router/DHCP server, an enigma server
on the network along with a Mac.

I see the latest GUI tool from RedHat is NeAT. It seems quite easy to use.
However, I've got a question about it's configuration or perhaps doing things
manually...

The Linksys will get DNS information from the service provider and will set
itself up as the router for the network. It will also hand out internal IP
addresses (for the systems I want it to). What I want, though, is for the Mac
to get an assigned IP address and the DNS info from the router (standard DHCP
way of doing things). HOWEVER, I'd like the linux box to have a manually
configured IP address and get the DNS info from the router.

If I go to NeAT, select the ethernet device and the "Edit..." button, I have
another config window. On this window, I select Protocols --> TCP/IP and
select "Edit..." again.

Here, I'd like to leave the TCP/IP settings as they are with a fixed IP addr,
subnet mask, and gateway address. But on the "Hostname" tab, it looks like I
can manually set the hostname but let DNS info be automatically obtained from
provider.

My question is, if I check that box ("Auto obtain DNS...") and leave the TCP
page set manually, will my system then query the Gateway (or will it look for
a DHCP server?) for DNS info but not for IP address info?

If not, is there a way to manaully set the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
files so that it will use a fixed IP address but DHCP DNS addresses? I see
BOOTPROTO=static, and it can become BOOTPROTO=dhcp, but neither of those will
do what I want...

Surely there must be a way to do what I want...

Thanks!
-Michael
