i ran:
  /usr/sbin/up2date --whatprovides libdb-3.2.so

and it told me:
  db3x-3.2.9-4

so i ran:
  /usr/sbin/up2date db3x-3.2.9-4

and it told me to take a hike
well actually it told me there was nothing to update,
but this was the impression i got

so i logged into a redhat ftp mirror
and downloaded:
  db3x-3.2.9-4.i386.rpm

and ran:
  rpm -Uvh db3x-3.2.9-4.i386.rpm

and behold!
  sendmail breathes :)
