If the drive is not a standard ide cdrom, perhaps something like:
insmod /lib/modules/"$version"/kernel/drivers/cdrom/sbpcd.o sbpcd=0x230,1

If you have the kernel source installed, see:
/usr/src/linux-$version/Documentation/cdrom/sbpcd

It's available on-line as well, though I don't know the URL offhand.
