I guess it depends on how you define expensive. I see that PCI SCSI cards
are pretty cheap on ebay. I've bought an used Adaptec for $25 in the past,
and there are SCSI cards bidding for under $20 right now.

Of course, I've seen new USB scanners for under $60 :) And much higher
resolution than my HP 5P I've never upgraded because I don't use a scanner
often enough to make it worthwhile.

Subject: hp scanjet IIcx question

Hi,
My boss gave me an old HP scanjet IIcx scanner we
replaced at work because the card wouldn't fit into
the new computer. I checked and it should be supported.
I have sane_backend sane_frontend and xsane rpms installed.
When I booted with the card installed and the scanner on
it did not find new hardware I tried xsane anyway but it
couldn't find the scanner. How do I get RH 7.0 to recognize
the scanner one link said that the card that comes with the
scanner won't work another said that the cheap cards that
come with the scanner would work but tell you how.
Am I out of luck when my boss looked into a pci scsi card
they were expensive (why I have the scanner) so
I can't see getting a different card for a 10 year old scanner.
                    Thanks
                     Linda Hanigan
