Hey everyone. Wonder if I could get a little help here.

There's so many variables to the equation, i was hoping someone might be
able to point out the weak point:

We recently upgraded our mail server to a PIII 933 box with 512MB of RAM
(going from a PP180 with 128MB). To do this, I installed the new system,
called is mailsrv2 (original was mailsrv), copied files over, then
changed its name and IP to the original mailsrv and switched the
original to mailsrv2. System worked great so I took mailsrv2 (now the
original) off-line. Few days later I updated the firmware on the linksys
NAT router we use to give internet access to this lan segment. At the
same time I changed its name from proxy to gateway. I then put the name
change into our name servers. A couple of days go by, everyhting's
great. Starting yesterday, connection to the mail server has a slow
response, but only to clients behind the Linksys NAT router on only on
certain ports. For instance, it takes about 30 seconds to get a response
from POP/IMAP from behind the linksys (immediate from anything on the
same segment as mailsrv) about 5 seconds for SMTP from behind the
linksys (immediate from segment) and immediate for SSH/HTTP from behind
the linksys. I have a feeling it has something to do with resolving DNS
somehow but querying our DNS servers for both IP and DNS name works
fine. I added an entry in /etc/hosts for gateway to see if that would do
it, but it didn't help. If I run netstat -otp after trying to connect
from behind the linksys is looks like it is getting stuck in the
SYN_SENT stage waiting for a reply from the client on the auth port.
Once established the is no problem. Where do I start?

TIA,
