Hello, Through several kernel versions on three different machines, I have had strange problems after using NFS. The three machines form an ethernet LAN and I need to use NFS to install software (including the RH updates) on one of the machines which lacks a working CDROM.
At first I wasn't 100% sure that the problem was caused by NFS, but I'm sure now. These machines will stay up for weeks without any problems, but within hours of using NFS I start having problems which always end in a reboot. This time, everything was fine until I logged out and tried to log back in--all the characters on the keyboard acted as though they were SHIFTed including the numbers. Turning on caps lock lowered the letters, but didn't change the numbers. Since my password contains numbers, I was unable to login. I ssh'ed in from one of the other machines and reloaded the keytable, but it didn't help. After trying some other things, I had to reboot. The problem NFS usually causes is that random programs start dumping core or generally failing to run. For example, this error popped up when trying to scp a file to one of the computers on my LAN: scp: relocation error: /lib/libpam.so.0: symbol ]_register_frame_info, version +GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference lost connection Once again, a reboot was required. Currently, all three machines are running Redhat 7.1. Two have kernel version 2.4.13-ac8 and the third 2.4.2-2 (stock RH 7.1 kernel). However, the problems have persisted through several different kernel versions. There are never any error messages in the syslog. How can I figure out what is going wrong? Has anyone else had similar problems?
