Well HTML is _not_ a dialect of XML. XHTML is I think, but HTML != XHTML.

Plain HTML doesn't support singleton tags rendered as:
        <tag/>
And XML forbids singleton tags in the HTML style (where they look just like
ordinary opening tags and you have to "know").

So yes, this is a problem.
