 Can you tell us what program you are using to create the tape, and a
little more detail about the error you are receiving when you try to
extract the data?

 Silly question: have you written somewhere after the beginning of the
tape and then rewound it so your Linux box is trying to read the start
of some data that has since been overwritten?
