The ataraid-list at Red Hat should be useful to you. Promise TX2 seems to have a bad rap. Other promise stuff reported doing very well using the software RAID. If you're willing to use closed-source (but stable and useful) drivers for specific kernels, Highpoint (www.highpoint-tech.com) offers IDE RAID. They also build it into some motherboards like Abit or Iwill. For seriously good Linux support, see www.3ware.com; you can get one of their cards for about $300 instead of the $75 for others, but they are good and excellent, and have full hardware RAID rather than just software. -- Rodolfo J.
