Hi, I have a problem with a mail server running RH6.2. Occassionaly, the
collection and sending of mail from M$-Outlook express clients slows down to
a crawl, and when I look at the process table, I see many ipop3d services
running.

At first, I thought this was related to DNS problems, but all the DNS
entries resolve correctly. Having said this, when running top, I see the
size for the "named" daemon is 11344 and the RSS 10M, while the %cpu jumps
from 4% to 99%, and eventually settles in the 70% to 99% region.

I have double checked the DNS configs, and cannot see any errors there. The
version of bind on this machine is 8.2.3.
Also, the entries for pop in the inetd.conf files are set to:
pop-2 stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/tcpd ipop2d
pop-3 stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/tcpd ipop3d

Any assistance with this problem would be highly appreciated.

Regards
Enrico Payne
