Hi Group, I have just downloaded a new Linux kernel, with instructions on how to set it up..
So far I have - backed up the original /usr/src/linux-2.4.2-2 directory to linux-2.4.2-2-old unpacked the new linux-2.4.9.tar.gz file gone through the make config options run a "make dep" run a "make clean" run a "make zImage" and now I have ended up with a directory /usr/src/linux with loads of files including the zImage, this must be the new compiled kernel. this next bit is where im stumbling a little :) I have gone into the /etc/lilo.conf, and im faced with this - boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map install=/boot/boot.b prompt timeout=50 message=/boot/message linear default=Linux image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2 label=Linux read-only root=/dev/hda3 I presume the "image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2" refers to the old kernel in some way, I have taken a look in the new /usr/src/linux directory and the closest file I can find to this is - vmlinux would I replace with this ? but other than this im a little lost sorry - this whole thing may seem very vague.
