The issue is that the Samba group has been doing all the development for
domain authentication.  So it looks like you want to authenticate logins 
against the domain rather than file access.  Have a look at the winbindd
service at http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/winbindd.8.html.  This provides
for a PAM module for authentication.
