2.5.3 is bleeding edge - if you have to ask, you definitely should not be
running it. The entire 2.5.x series is development and should not be used
for production unless you really, really know what you're doing and what
risks you're taking. File corruption, system hangs, etc. have been and may
always be prevalent in development kernels depending on what features are
currently being tested.

There is a really good reason why Red Hat ships the kernel it does, and it's
not because they're lazy. The kernel they ship WORKS and is supportable. The
same can not be said for any more recent kernels. Please remember that Red
Hat heavily modifies the kernel to ensure stability and security. Almost no
vendors ship a stock Linus kernel as part of their distribution (I believe
that only Slackware actually does).

If you don't have a specific problem you're trying to fix, don't mess with the
kernel since you can easily create problems where none existed before. If
you do have a kernel issue, post here first to make sure that the problem is
really in the kernel and that the kernel you're trying to go to has the
problem fixed and is also stable.

When it comes to kernels, the latest is not normally the greatest.
