Hi Brian, 

Thanks for your response.  I have already tried to modify the
XF86config-4 to force the module video4linux to be loaded.  To no
avail.   The mpeg players "works",  but spits that message.  I
have noticed some quirks with the player,  but I can't tell if it
is due to the lack of that module.

Oh Well,  I am using an old S3 card on this machine.  I guess that
it is due to the driver.  I will until I change that card.
