Subject: DNS weirdness

What the???????

I have set up an internal domain 'domain.com'

On this domain I have 5 PCs

1> Linux 6.2 (server.domain.com) (192.168.0.10)
2> My own PC (edward.domain.com) (192.168.0.2)
3> My wife's PC (kylie.domain.com) (DHCP - only just starting to test
it - can drop it back to 192.168.0.3 but seems to make no difference))
4> The nursery down the back (floraplant.domain.com) (192.168.0.4)
5> My neighbour's PC (richard.domain.com) (192.168.0.5)

When I ping them from the SERVER:
---------------------------------------

server or server.domain.com (127.0.0.1) OK

edward or edward.domain.com (192.168.0.2) OK

kylie or kylie.domain.com (216.147.69.55 <--- Where did THIS come from).
It says it is pinging from 203.59.196.224. OK, I thought maybe stuffed
up my DHCP somehow, but it gets worse. PING responds EVEN with the PC
turned OFF. How does that work??? I'm confused.

floraplant or floraplant.domain.com (192.168.0.4) OK

richard or richard.domain .com (192.168.0.5) OK

NOW HERE's AN INTERESTING ONE:

ping lalala works (same response as kylie)
ping thissucks works (same response as kylie)

somehow, it seems that if it can't resolve the proper ip address of the
internal client PC, it just fetches one from somewhere, and successfully
pings it.

When I ping them from the MY PC:
---------------------------------------

server or server.domain.com (216.147.69.55 <-- wrong again what's going
on???)

edward or edward.domain.com (192.168.0.2) OK

kylie or kylie.domain.com (216.147.69.55 <--- wrong ofcourse)

floraplant or floraplant.domain.com (216.147.69.55 <--- wrong)

richard or richard.domain .com (216.147.69.55 <--- wrong)

and again. 'ping somehwere' comes up with that as well.

???

RedHat 6.2
Caching Named with one forwarder (My ISP's DNS server)

Resolv.conf has:

search domain.com
nameserver 192.168.0.10
nameserver 192.168.0.10
nameserver (My ISP nameserver address)

host.conf has:

order hosts, bind
multi on

for the STATIC addresses the hosts file on the server contains the
correct ip addresses and aliases.

Any Ideas?
