On this subject...How much of a performance gain do you actually see by using those binaries? I've always just used the i386 because they are the most widely available. Is it worth upgrading to i686 on Pentium Pro's and i586 on Pentiums? The servers I am speaking of are small, single function ones like DNS, FTP, Mail, Web. Very light loads. Will I really notice a performance gain by using the customized binaries?
