The RH7.2 defaults for vi, include key assignments that cause the 'delete' = and 'backspace' to act as expected. The first time I've ever run across these particular defaults... and I love 'em! The only problem is that they have suddenly disappeared. The last time I booted the system, 23 days ago, I opened 6 xterms under gno= me. 5 of the 6 xterms continue to bring up 'vi' in the default mode with the go= od key bindings, but one of them, my main one brings up 'vi' in some 'standard' mode without the RH7.2 bindings. All new xterms that are started, bring up 'vi' in the standard mode, i.e., no RH7.2 bindings. I have checked the preferences of old xterms with the good bindings against new xterms with the bad bindings and they are the same. My .bash_profile and .bashrc remain unchanged. I have no .vim(rc) and .exrc remains unchanged. I have checked the file dates in '/usr/share/vim/vim58/' and they all remain as they were at the install date. The only thing that I can think of that might have affected this situation = is, in the one bad xterm I was experimenting with 'mutt' and making changes to =2Emuttrc *only* that involved using iso-8859-15. I quickly changed this b= ack. I changed *nothing* else during this experimentation. I would appreciate any suggestions on getting my RH7.2 setup returned to the default as far as this issue is concerned. Barring that, I'll take suggest= ions on how to tell 'vi' to have these good key bindings. Thank you. --=20 - Martin J.
