I'll answer my own question, at least partially.  I still don't quite 
understand it completely though.

I reset my host name in /etc/hosts
Under my IP in /etc/hosts, I have localhost listed as well as my correct 
hostname.  Well, I put my correct hostname first instead of second, and 
voila, everything seems to be working now.
