Hello redhat-list,

  Someone recently asked why their ftp connection was slow through
  their firewall.  It is most likely due to the ftp server doing a
  tcp/auth (port 113) back to the destination client.  If you are not
  accepting in and forwarding port 113 from the inside of your
  firewall to the outside the ftp connection will eventually
  establish, but take a very long time...up to a minute.

  Put a sniffer on it to see.
