I did that; however I hit the *backspace* key a couple times and that may 
have screwed things up. So, after running *make install* and discovering 
things weren't working, I went ahead and remade the cert., but still 
without success. Assuming this is the problem, how can I remove the cert, 
clean out any residue and begin again?

There is a mod_ssl list but no one responded to my request for help. It may 
not be a very popular list. As far as apache, mod_ssl isn't part of the 
distro, so (IMHO) this is as good a list to ask.
