Jack Byers [EMAIL PROTECTED] what is /etc/MACHINE.SID ?
[jack@corni jack]$ cat /etc/MACHINE.SID S-1-5-21-294535841-2723149962-632958105 how is it generated, and used for what? how to restore if trashed? this is more than just curiosity: in my recent debacle of overwriting part of /etc on corni rhat6.2 with same name files from my byers rhat5.2 system this /etc/MACHINE.SID file was one of them overwritten what consequences can I expect? For what it is worth, my experience to date on recovering: was able to restore, reconstruct such things as fstab, XF86Config,.. Had to log in as root to rewrite password of the user who was logged in when i did that overwrite as root. corni is still functioning, can log in and out of X, I havent yet attempted to reboot _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp _______________________________________________ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
