Are you using a SPARC? SPARC, if you don't know, is a big-endian 64-bit 
system architecture (64-bit now adays.. I think the 64-bit ones are called 
UltraSPARC).

Most people use Intel and AMD x86 systems. Unless you actually have a 
SPARC, you'll want to get packages saying either i386 or x86.
