boot.img or bootnet.img should work. If you used dd with boot.img
instead of install.144 and it would not boot, the first thing I would
try is using a different floppy. If the one you used has any bad
sectors, you will run into problems. This is because dd or rawrite does
not check the floppy for bad sectors. When using floppies that have
been sitting around for a while, I sometimes have to try 3 or 4 before
getting a good one.
You should also check to see if the image you downloaded is correct.
I have downloaded a bad image a time of two...
