Hi,

I recently upgraded two of my 7.0 boxes from 2.2.16-22 to 2.2.19-7.0.1
One went very smoothly. The second one was a different story.

I can boot the 2.2.19-7.0.1 kernel from the bootdisk floppy I made.
I just can't boot it from the HD. (FYI, this is a dual boot NT and
RH system - I know, I should perform an exorcism and remove NT, but
unfortunately that's not an option).

I used dd to strip off the bootsect from the first 512 bytes of my
boot disk and copied it unto my NTFS partition. The weird part is
I can boot my old 2.2.16-22 kernel from the HD. When I try to boot
the 2.2.19-7.0.1 kernel, I get the following error: 0x40
The lilo doc says this is a "Seek Failure" and to just "Try booting
again". Well, booting again doesn't fix the problem (not
surprising). I'm stumped because I can boot the old kernel but not
the new one from the HD and I can boot both from bootdisk floppies.

Any ideas?

-Jim

If NT is your answer, you don't understand the question.
