floppy booting

when i try to boot linux from a floppy it takes a VEEEEEEEEEEEEERY long
time.......much longer than say for example windows which is just
moments..

is their prolonged boot time from floppy due to fact that linux kernel
is compressed ?????

or is something not right with my floppy drive ....
