Hi Guys,
It's been a while, but I just threw together a Redhat 7.0 FTP server and
have a very basic question which has stumped me. Forgive me for what I am
about to ask, but someone knows how to do this:
I have a group of customers, each has unique username and password, all
belong to the same group. These customers are only one directory and certain
sub-directories (the ftp root: /var/ftp, and their respective ftp directory:
/var/ftp/customer1). Now everything I know about permissions tells me that I
want to chmod 700 each directory so that only the customer can look at his
or her own directory. They can also see the root which will contain all the
other directories but access will be denied because of the 700 permissions.
Now, I wish to create a user, call him superuser if you will, that has
access to all of the directories under /var/ftp (to retrieve and delete
files). How do I set this up? If I add him to the group and then chmod 770
that will allow other customers to look at not only their own directory, but
other customers as well. (Please Lord forgive me, for I know not what I am
about to say) I know in NT I can tell a directory or file who can access it
and what type of access they have. How do I do this in Linux? Thanks for
your help!
