    Wasn't shooting you (my Elmer Fudd rifle's in the shop, getting lubbed up for
hunting season).

    On the other hand, I tried using hdparm to shut off dma usage, then telling
it to keep the settings, and upon reboot the same thing happened again.  When I
try to tell the drive to keep settings over reset, I get an error returned.  I'm
guessing this is a too old a drive to accept some of what hdparm is trying to do.

    Any other suggestions I can try (aside from pitching a perfectly good (albeit
old) drive)?
