I disagree; I want it as my firewall, NAT, DHCP box for the house. I
think
it should be able to handle the traffic from three computers just
fine...

I have a Compaq Prolinea 4/33s (486SX-33, 8MB, 340MB) that serves as my
firewall/masquerading box for a 5 machine LAN. It's running a modem and
an ancient 3c503 ethernet card. It was running the above specs for some
time without any problems, including handling an OpenSSH term and
several browser/news/e-mail connections open at the same time. I
couldn't get RedHat 6.2 or 7.0 to install on it due to the 8MB, but
Debian 2.2 installed just fine. I've since upgraded the machine with a
Pentium 83 Overdrive & 24MB RAM with the intention of installing RedHat
but have never gotten around to it. (I'm setting up another box with
OpenBSD on it as a potential replacement.) I've never had any problem
with disk space except for the time I installed gcc and all of the
development packages to play with LOMAC.

Cheers,

James
