Actually, I see this error when someone logs out on my system as well,
but it's dependent on the term emulator software they use. For example,
most of my users log in using Reflection software, and they don't give
this error when they log out. I only see it when someone (like my
supervisor) uses SCO's emu (Term Vision?).

I just figured that some clients aren't as "proper" with the exit
procedure as they should be.
